Orly Lumbreras 2017 Sade Multivarieta

Orly Lumbreras 2017 Sade Multivarieta

I haven’t written about orange wine in ages, which is pretty surprising given my persistent penchant for it. Last month, Maxwell Park in D.C. featured skin contact wines on their rotating menu, with a large selection of orange and rosé wines by the glass. I love that they do half-pours, allowing me to try more without feeling like death the next day! Of the ones that I tried, one really stood out – Orly Lumbreras 2017 Sade Multivarietal. It was incredibly unique with a nutty, toasty flavor profile.

Similar to a sherry in a way, though I don’t really like sherry and I loved this one. Interestingly, Orly Lumbreras is a Spanish sound engineer and radio host turned winemaker. It’s not surprising that this wine came from a non-traditional vintner as it is definitely out-of-the-box. So if you’re feeling a little adventurous, give this one a shot. It isn’t easy to find but Dandelion Wine in Greenpoint currently has it in stock for $40 a bottle.
